  • EXHIBITOR magazine’s press release regarding virtual events and face-to-face illustrates a few of the points that we have been talking about for some time. First, they say that less than 40% of their readers that answered the survey have never been to a virtual event. Alright I misquoted, they said that less than 40% of the “companies” that answered the survey had ever participated (in any way including attending) in a virtual event. As they claim to have a reader base of corporate event marketers I find it very hard to believe that the person handling the trade shows knows–across their company, who has attended a virtual event and in an enterprise, and who has spoken or exhibited. I work...

  • In today’s ever more complex world, it is becoming increasingly difficult to get partners, employees and customers together to exchange knowledge, build networks, and nurture relationships. Usually, we all do this through events whether they are business or public events. But in today’s evolving economy lots of organizations are unsure whether traditional events delivered business impact commensurate with their costs and that attendees will fly from around the globe to attend an event. Modern technology provides attendees more options to participate how and when they choose. For example, leading organizations are  adding virtual components to their physical events (known as hybrid events) to enhance their event programs. By leveraging technology organizations are enhancing overall attendee experience and generating revenue. Instead...

  • It seems pretty obvious that virtual events want into social media. Anyone whose business is to find qualified audience is intrigued by the idea of systems that, in principle, let you leverage a connection with one qualified person into connections with all of their (presumably also, in part, qualified) friends; and that encourage and facilitate both active promotion to this population, and on the flip side, accelerate organic word of mouth and mass action. On the Virtual Edge LinkedIn Group, a recent discussion on “Are Social Platforms a Threat to Virtual Platforms” generated over 40 comments. John Jainschigg, CEO of digital event agency World2Worlds, Inc., provided an in-depth perspective on the current state of virtual events and social media, as...

  • This may sound a little like productivity blasphemy but yesterday, I had a great time on Facebook.  While I’m not an all-day-long-hardcore user of the site, I appreciate that I can quickly catch up on the lives of my friends and acquaintances.  I’ve lived on both coasts, the south and across the midwest.  I have precious friendships that have grown from business dealings with people many states apart from where I live.  As I cooed over pictures of my friend Ashley’s newest baby in New Orleans, learned that my friends Tom and Gigi are moving into a gorgeous new house in Tennessee, and rejoiced that still another found a new job after a long difficult job search in New York. ...

  • Earlier this month, virtual events vendor, Unisfair (an Intercall company), released its second annual survey of marketers. According to the “The Future of Virtual Business Environments” survey, the company queried 550 US-based marketers in event marketing, corporate marketing and product marketing regarding their use of virtual and hybrid events. The company did not include its customer base for this survey to provide an unbiased perspective about the role of virtual within marketing organizations. While the company’s 2010 survey focused on how marketers leveraged different technologies for marketing purposes, such as social media, online advertising, and events (virtual and physical), this year’s survey solely focused on marketers’ use of virtual events and environments for business.
