NewNet3D a French start up has launched VEXPO a quick loading Flash based 3D environment that runs in the browser and requires no additional download of software (often the case with 3D environments). If you are familiar with virtual event platforms you will find VEXPO has many familiar features such as exhibits, meeting rooms, large session rooms, lobby and networking spaces. The environment looks a bit sparse or lite compared to some other 3D environments but that is to allow for faster loading and response times. It also helps make the navigation simple and intuitive.
According to Bennani Redwanet, NewNet3D’s CEO, the meeting space allows you to present using PowerPoint slides or you can view and share other documents. Navigation is quite simple using the arrow keys or by clicking on the floor or to open a document or video. The 3D environment is nice for being able to display several documents or presentations in one area and the room automatically expands to accommodate all of the content.
In 3D spaces, attendee interaction is one of the goals so in addition to chat, the system has its own Skype-like VOIP phone system so you can call people through your computer during the event. For larger meetings, NewNet3D recommends using an outside conference bridge.
Each client gets their own virtual building and a separate url which can be embedded into a site and you can take people directly into your virtual space. As long as you have people register with an email and password on your site, they can automatically be provisioned in the virtual space.
There is a CMS that allows you to change the look of the environment or add additional floors and exhibits. And an upload feature allows the producer to add 3D items like furnishings and décor.
The pricing model starts with an upfront fee for the building and then annual fees based on the number of rooms used. The pricing is all inclusive with the one variable being based number of concurrent users. If the number of concurrent users goes up significantly there is an additional fee that will be charged for additional bandwidth. Typical pricing might be $5,000 set up fee and an annual charge of $2,000 based on one building with 5 rooms. Applications include collaboration, learning, meetings and expositions.
They have an event coming up on September 23rd for viewing.
