John Barber
Virtual Event Product Executive And Consultant
John is currently consulting on product management, virtual event strategy, and marketing projects. As VP Product Management at INXPO, John led the simplified design of the INXPO VX platform, empowering organizations to set up virtual event environments in an hour, reuse content across hundreds of events, and drive mass adoption of virtual event technology. Prior to this, John built the digital strategy practice as VP at Immersa Marketing, strategically advising global brands, including Cisco Systems, on virtual event user experience and the convergence of virtual event and social software technologies.
During this time, John was a co-designer of uShow, the Internet’s first social video tagging and sharing platform integrated with Twitter and Facebook, enabling social conversations to take place around specific moments, or jump frames, in online videos. Before this, John was SVP Audience & Media Products at BDMetrics (now Three Stage Media) where he wrote personalization algorithms, and the patent application, for the BDMetrics recommendation engine. This engine built an online audience of over 3.5 million trade show attendees at events like CES, NAB and BIO by matching content and people at major events to the needs and interests of individual buyers and sellers. John had earlier consulting and management successes at Sun Microsystems (Oracle), Portal Software (Oracle), LANNET (Avaya), and Octel Communications (Avaya).
